The years that shape us
Before we turn twenty-five, we live a thousand lives.
We lose people we thought would be here forever. We experience our first heartbreak and discover we can survive it. We fail exams, miss opportunities, and learn that starting over isn't the same as falling behind. We find friendships that feel like home, and some that teach us what we won't accept. Ideally, we stumble into work that excites us, or spend years searching for it. We make choices we're proud of and ones we wish we could take back.
These early years aren't just a prologue to "real life", they are real life, perhaps the most formative chapter of it.
Research tells us that our brains are still actively developing until around age twenty-five, which means every experience during this window leaves a deeper imprint. The support we receive, the challenges we face, the people who believe in us when we can't believe in ourselves, these don't just shape our memories. They shape our nervous systems, our sense of what's possible, and the story we tell ourselves about who we are.
Every young person deserves someone in their corner, not someday, but now. While it still matters most.
